Hurricane Season 101: Help Your Guests Weather the Storm

No one expects it to happen to them, yet every year hurricane season makes a mess of unfortunate travelers’ long anticipated summer vacations. As your guests look forward to relaxation and abundant sunshine this season, it’s wise to note that many popular places to visit in the U.S.— Florida, the Carolinas and the beautiful coastlines of Hawaii—are also prone to hurricane-related travel risks. Though it’s rare that vacation plans are affected by natural disasters, helping guests prepare for bad weather that could impact their itineraries can help them trust that you’re attending to each aspect of their trip.

Generali travel insurance plans provide coverage for certain weather-related events your guests might encounter during hurricane season. If these events impact your guests’ vacation, their travel insurance plan can reimburse your guests for their nonrefundable trip costs—rather than asking you to return their deposits and other prepaid payments.

Mandatory Evacuations Your rentals are evacuated due to adverse weather or a natural disaster such as a hurricane and your guests’ reservation falls within 30 days of the initial evacuation order. To cancel in full, your guests shouldn’t have more than 50%—or more than 4 days—of their reservation left when the evacuation is lifted.

Flight Delays and/or Cancellations Your guests’ flights are cancelled or delayed due to adverse weather, and they have to interrupt or cancel their travel arrangements.

Uninhabitable Personal Home Maybe your rental properties aren’t in an affected area, but your guests’ home is. If a flood, fire, hurricane or other natural disaster makes your guests’ personal home uninhabitable, travel insurance can provide coverage.

Inaccessible Destination Adverse weather interrupts road service for 6 or 24 hours or more (depending upon the plan purchased) and prevents your guests from reaching their unit. Provided your guests’ reservation falls within 15 days of the initial event interrupting access, Generali travel insurance can help.

Interruption of Essential Services Water, electric, sewage or gas services at your rentals are interrupted for more than 24 hours because of adverse weather or a natural disaster.

A travel protection plan could make the difference between a guest recouping some or all of their costs should these weather-related mishaps occur. If your guests do purchase insurance, we recommend they always travel with a hard copy of their Description of Coverage/Policy so they can reach us, even if they can’t access the internet. All plans include access to our 24/7 emergency hotline for immediate assistance, anytime.

Generali Global Assistance Launches eClaims Portal for Partner Justfly

New online, automated claims website shows company’s commitment to technological innovation and customer service enhancements

Generali Global Assistance’s Travel Insurance division (“the Company) today announced that it has launched a new eClaims Portal for its partner Justfly, a value-minded airline ticket aggregator website. The eClaims Portal provides Justfly customers with a more efficient method to navigate the claims process.

The portal allows customers to download their Description of Coverage or Policy, start a new claim, add information to an existing claim, and track the status of their claims online. Additionally, the portal offers a robust FAQ section, as well as step-by-step instructions on materials needed and how to submit a claim.

Commenting on today’s news, Chris Carnicelli, CEO of Generali Global Assistance said, “We started allowing Justfly customers to utilize our eClaims Portal in March of this year as part of a soft launch, and so far, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of ease and efficiency. So much so that another Justfly brand – FlightHub – has already adopted Generali’s eClaims portal for its customers. We are committed to enhancing our products and services through the best innovative practices and we anticipate making this website available for all of our partners and customers, across all policies. Justfly is a valued partner who does a tremendous volume, and Justfly customers are savvy online users; therefore it was strategically viable to roll out this Portal to their customer base first.”

Generali’s eClaims Portal enables the customer convenience of submitting claims and accessing their claims record 24/7 from any device with an internet browser. In the early weeks of Justfly customers’ usage of eClaims, one third (33%) of all claims received have been via the eClaims portal. Given this quick adoption of eClaims, Generali anticipates that the majority of claims will be electronically submitted within weeks, highlighting the website’s ease of use and customer preference for digital experiences.

“The new claims website has been very positively received by our customers as it offers them a more streamlined approach, which has contributed to better customer experience,” said Marc-Andre Laporte Marketing Director for Justfly. “We are thrilled that Generali Global Assistance has chosen us to be the first partner with access to the new portal, building on our longstanding and trusted partnership. We look forward to continuing to build on the operational efficiencies provided by the eClaims platform that can provide a better product and an enhanced customer service offering.”

Generali Global Assistance Named Best Travel Insurance Company by Top Ten Reviews

Generali Global Assistance’s Travel Insurance division (“the Company), has received the Gold Award for Travel Insurance Company by consumer product review site Top Ten Reviews. The Gold Award is given to the number one ranked product in the category.

Top Ten Reviews is a product review site, which has been in operation for over 14 years. They are one of the most comprehensive sites on the web with tens of thousands of reviews and rankings completed. While they may research dozens of products in a single category, they only show the best picks or, like the name suggests, the top ten. The reviews combine product comparison, expert analysis and industry data.

Commenting on today’s news, Chris Carnicelli, CEO of Generali Global Assistance said, “We are very pleased to receive the recognition as the number one travel insurance provider by such a credible consumer review platform. As a company, we strive to not only provide the best possible product to our customers, but to usher in a new era of travel insurance that is dedicated to greater transparency and consumer education. This award is a testament to our dedication in this area and we are excited to progress on both fronts even further in the future.”

Top Ten Reviews uses a team of researchers and reviewers to analyze the products. Through their tests, they gather data on features, ease of use, durability and customer support. Using a proprietary weighted system (i.e., a complicated algorithm), the data is then scored, and the rankings laid out, and they award the three top-ranked products with Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards.

The site is very serious about their integrity. So much so that they keep their sales team and reviewers in separate buildings – in different states and in different time zones. They state that any “Methods of monetization in no way affect the rankings of products, services or companies we review. Period.”

These products combine the institutional knowledge, quality, and customer service built by CSA over the past 25 years with the backing and underwriting ability of a global insurance brand – Generali. In addition, some Generali plans include an ID Theft Resolution service that provides assistance when a traveler’s identity has been compromised during their trip. This service extends for 180 days from a traveler’s scheduled departure date.

Making the Most Out of Vacation Rental Damage Protection

Since 2008, we’ve been offering Vacation Rental Damage Protection to help cover your rental properties and your guests if they cause accidental damages. We’re proud to have offered this valuable protection for over a decade—our damage protection plans have even become an ‘essential tool’ for some of our partners as they look for new ways to generate revenue, market their listings and deal with damages that can negatively impact guest satisfaction.

But is your Vacation Rental Damage Protection plan working at its best? Here are a few tips that we’ve acquired over the years that can help property management companies and their managers make the most out of their Vacation Rental Damage Protection offering.

Encourage Guests to Report Damages

Guests who pay traditional security deposits may be less inclined to bring accidental damages to your attention, but if they purchase Vacation Rental Damage Protection guests can rent with fewer worries—that’s why they purchased the insurance. We recommend encouraging your guests to immediately notify your rental office of any accidental damage that takes place during their stay. In some cases, we may need to follow up with guests if more information is needed, but guests can rest assured they will not be penalized because a claim is filed.

Document Damages at Check-out/Check-in

Knowing when damages took place will help us resolve your claim more quickly and efficiently so we recommend checking the property for damages after each reservation. Some of our partners ask their guests to quickly scan the property for damages at check-in and document their findings in order to help inform their rental office of any damages and when they took place.

Take Photographs and File Claims Promptly

Providing thorough documentation and filing claims promptly helps our claims department process cases in a timely manner and minimizes the need for your assigned representative to follow-up with you or your guest for more information. Photographs are always highly desired and other documentation, such as receipts or repair invoices, may also be required to finalize your claim.

Offer the Program with Every Listing

Managers renting units with antique or particularly expensive furnishings may feel more comfortable requiring traditional security deposits from their guests as Vacation Rental Damage protection plans are unable to cover all damages, such as those that are intentional or malicious. Yet, even guests who are paying traditional deposits may still benefit from purchasing Vacation Rental Damage protection—if they cause accidental damage, they can file a claim and seek reimbursement for amounts that your office withholds from their deposit to repair or replace the damages—you can also ask the guest to assign their insurance benefits to your rental office, rather than withholding any of their security deposit. Plus, your office earns a commission on each plan sold.

CSA Travel Protection-Generali Global Assistance is dedicated to continuing to help our partners succeed by adding revenue to your bottom line and improving the guest experience with our Vacation Rental Damage Protection products. Following these suggestions can help your office make the most out of your offering and your dedicated account management team is always available to discuss ways to improve program performance at your agency. To learn more or to set up a customized training, contact your account manager.
