Spike in Shark Attacks Isn’t Scaring Away Tourists

A spike in shark attacks off the coast of the Carolinas has made a splash across the media this summer, but CNBC reports that it’s not affecting the number of vacation rental stays in the area.

A whopping 12 shark attacks have taken place off the Carolina coast this year, compared to the average four to six attacks each year. The attacks don’t seem to be keeping tourists at home, but a travel insurance plan with Medical and Emergency Assistance and Transportation coverages might help put your guests at ease.

The odds are very slim that any of your guests would encounter a shark. But, even without predators lurking below the waves, the beach can be a dangerous place, especially if your guests aren’t familiar with the ocean. A travel insurance plan from CSA Travel Protection can provide coverage for your guests just in case an unexpected medical issue arises.

Here are some coverages and services from CSA’s Guest Protect plan*, designed for vacation rental guests, that might apply if a traveler steps on broken glass on the beach or even in case of a shark attack:

Medical and Dental Coverage
Provides coverage for the necessary medical, surgical and emergency dental care costs if the insured become sick or accidentally injured while on their covered trip. Coverage is in excess of standard coverage, except where prohibited.

Emergency Assistance and Transportation Coverage
Benefits include transportation to the nearest suitable medical facility, help to return home if medically necessary  and expenses for a companion to visit if the insured is traveling alone and is hospitalized for more than 7 days.

No Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses Service
If the insured gets sick or injured while traveling, we can get them to a trusted provider and even handle the payment for acute treatments up to $1,000.

Weathering the Storms—CSA is Here to Help

Hurricane season is upon us and CSA Travel Protection has launched a new online Hurricane Kit Dashboard with easy-to-use tools for many of our partners and their guests to help ease the travel insurance claims process if a mandatory evacuation occurs.

If your property is located in a potential hurricane zone, it’s recommended that you prepare an evacuation plan for your guests and remind them to be ready to leave the accommodations if necessary. CSA partners with vacation rentals in hurricane zones receive our annual Hurricane Kit that helps answer travel insurance questions you and your guests might have during a mandatory evacuation, and can help expedite processing of claims resulting from a mandatory evacuation.

The new online Hurricane Kit Dashboard gives our partners access to a digital version of the kit with forms that are easy to email or print, the ability to order extra materials from the kit, and a new “why buy” travel insurance flyer to help advertise travel insurance to guests during hurricane season.

Thankfully, forecasters predict* fewer hurricanes this season compared to previous years, but that’s no reason to be caught unprepared. All it takes is one hurricane making landfall near your vacation rental for your guests to regret not protecting their trip costs.

As an industry leader and long-time provider of vacation rental insurance and emergency assistance services, our Guest Protect plan can help reduce the negative impacts of mandatory evacuations due to tropical storms and hurricanes on your vacation rental business, can help maintain your customer satisfaction and retention, and is a way to increase revenue to your bottom line.

ID Theft Resolution Service for Your Guests

About $15 billion was stolen from 13.1 million consumers in 2015, according to the 2016 Identity Fraud Study by Javelin Strategy & Research.

Everyone should be on guard about “Identity Theft,” but it’s something that travelers are especially wary of, as they’re usually carrying documents, IDs and credit cards in unfamiliar places. Your guests may appreciate it if you offer them a service designed to help them if their identity is compromised during their vacation.

Identity Theft Resolution Service* is included when your guests purchase vacation rental insurance from CSA Travel Protection. Many vacationers are interested in travel insurance so they can recoup vacation rental and trip costs if they cancel for a covered reason, but mentioning the additional ID Theft Resolution Service could encourage more guests to insure their trip.

The assistance available with CSA’s ID Theft Resolution Service include:

  • Contacting creditors to notify them about the fraud and possibly request to cancel affected cards and issue new ones.
  • Reporting the fraudulent activity to local authorities and forward a report to creditors.
  • Providing the traveler with a helpful ID Theft Resolution Kit.
  • Assistance in notifying banks or other agencies if identification such as an ATM card, passport, or driver’s license is stolen.
  • Education about how ID theft happens and protective measures for the future.
  • And more.

Your guests will not only have access to this service while on vacation, but also after their trip, since often times travelers don’t notice the theft until they arrive home. ID Theft Resolution Service is automatically included for a full 180 days starting on the traveler’s scheduled departure date.
